Question Question about my soldering iron

I didn't disbelieve you, I'm just wondering what hell they've put that poor tip through. I first though the tip was copper until I zoomed.

Question Question about my soldering iron

Interesting, I don't think I've ever seen a Hakko tip that looks anything like that. Like ever. All of the ones I'm familiar with are the silver pre-tinned ones and like I've said, with regular use I've not once had to re-tin them. Edit: After reading their guide apparently things I thought...

Question Question about my soldering iron

I've never had to re-tin and of my Hakko tips as long as I've had them and I've used them at max temp the entire time. Idk if Hakko uses some special mixture that doesn't wear off as quickly or if just using it the way I do has kept the tip tinned. The cheap irons I was using were claiming on...

G-Boy Rev III Kit (Orange Shell)

Reworded the end a bit. I'm still unsure as to really where to price it at but hopefully this helps?

Question Question about my soldering iron

He was talking about melting the solder on the Wii and that's ROHS solder, so it could be a combo of both. I played hell trying to get it to melt with my cheapo soldering irons, they were each about 30, and both were properly tinned. ROHS just sucks to melt with cheapo irons. The upside is with...

G-Boy Rev III Kit (Orange Shell)

I also have the Wii board I trimmed while waiting on the kit. I am unsure if it works or if I even did everything correctly but I still have the rest of the board as well. If the buyer wants the cut down Wii in the hopes that it will work, and that I didn't screw it up, I'm more than happy to...

G-Boy Rev III Kit (Orange Shell)

I've got a G-Boy kit with orange shell that I bought way way back when they were first made available. I kept the kit unopened, until I needed to take pictures for this post, on my table meaning to put it together but just never had the time. Now with life moving on I realize I probably won't...

Where to start with circuitry function/design?

I'm already subbed to Electroboom and Eevblog, you're spot on with what you said about them. Phil's Lab and Great Scott seem to be what I'm after, thank you for the suggestions! I'll look and see if I can find Shank's Playlist of those videos too.

Question Question about my soldering iron

Nice! Hakko is a solid brand at a good price for hobbyists. JBC is another good brand but their soldering station and hot air station prices are insanely high. One day I'll own a JBC hot air rework station but that's much further down the road lol.

Where to start with circuitry function/design?

This might be a weird question but I have no clue where to start learning about circuitry design. I see so many of you creating custom circuits and custom PCBs for your projects but don't have a clue where to even begin learning how to do something like that myself. I have probably the bare...

    Can't Upload Images?

Good Lord, I feel even dumber now for not thinking of this before now.... I just tested on one of the original images and feel like such an idiot. It was all because the images was way way way too large for the site. They were all 8160x4592 and downsizing them to the same 3264x1836 fixed the...

    Can't Upload Images?

It was definitely the server just not wanting jpgs. I've got a Fold5 and have HEIC set to off since it causes issues everywhere, most platform can't figure out what to do with them and the image has to be converted just to be uploaded so it's easiest just to not use HEIC. Converting everything...

    Can't Upload Images?

That was the issue. For some reason the forum just didn't want the jpgs. I hadn't even considered that since almost everything accepts either jpgs nowadays. Thanks for the heads up, I'd have been stuff here spinning my wheels lol.

    Can't Upload Images?

So, I gave it a few days to see if maybe it was just an overload issue with the site or something like that but it still won't allow me to upload the pictures I took. I've tried several different images of random things on my camera roll but I get the same message each time. Thankfully I don't...

Worklog Take aWii - Portable Wii inside a laptop

I knew the original sensor bar was IR LEDs and was wondering if that was what those were for in the build pictures but I didn't know for sure and didn't want to look goofy assuming that's what was going on. That's a really neat solution to the problem and this way you don't have to gut a OEM...

    Worklog Kawaii

Those look fantastic! If I had the time to build still I'd be all over this like white on rice! The Pogo pin dock and the portability is right up my alley. T his entire project is just jaw dropping for me, I never foresaw the Wii being put in such a compact shell with so many features still...

That case looks snazzy! How did you cut the holes so cleanly? They look fantastic and if I didn't know you cut them I'd have thought it was printed that way!

Worklog Take aWii - Portable Wii inside a laptop

Speaking of cooling it would probably be better to do custom cooling depending on the Netbook/Chromebook. There is a build log for a portable 360 with custom cooling so perhaps something like that would be useful on a smaller Netbook/Chromebook build. That way you'd have a custom cooler built...
