My project for the 2024 Summer Build Competition is going to be a modern rendition of @Madmorda's Wii S Lite. A couple months ago, I was in a call with Crash and some other fellas and he mentioned how he has the husk / some guts from the Wii S Lite, and it prompted me to look for what Madmorda used as the shell for the project. Well, it was pretty easy to find on eBay, and cheap enough to warrant a random pickup. Since then, it has sat on my desk in my room, with no purpose in life....

Recently, I decided it would be fun to join the Wii Mini OMEGA crew, so I pulled one off of my shelf and, with a little help from BlueBomb, I got it homebrewed and RVLoaded (thanks @Y2K for helping with my BlueBombing issues). From there, I relocated the NAND with one of @YveltalGriffin's flexes I got from him at MGC. While I did also have an AVE flex on hand, I felt the urge to try my hand at the sacrificial daughterboard method (as inspired by @SparkleBear). I had a long-gone 6-layer board from when I was first learning hot to use hot air (the board was well-dead beforehand, don't worry). Using another 6-layer board for reference, I matched the AVE vias on the 6-layer to the AVE vias on the Mini, and it worked like a charm!

Prior to trimming, I remembered the intec case on my desk, and got the idea for this project! Everything went well with trimming, and I'm excited to have my first Mini OMEGA!

As this is very much still in the ideas phase, I do not yet have a fully-fleshed-out list of specs, but here is what I have brainstormed so far:
  • Wii Mini OMEGA (video output to be determined)
    • Depending on what display / driver board I use (as well as what space constraints in the shell will require), my options are HDMI via Fujiflex, DD or VGA
  • Thundervolt for power (upon release, along with a BMS TBD)
  • Hopefully 4x 18650s
    • Due to the need for the controller to be recessed into the bottom half of the shell, quad 18650s might not be able to fit in the position I have them above. Worst case scenario, I opt for dual 18650s laid out how Madmorda did in her original build (horizontally across the bottom)
  • 4.3" QLED screen (as per the recommendation of @thedrew!). I have a couple different driver boards in the mail to play with, again I am not yet sure of what video format this build will allow for
  • 3D-printed plate for the controller / bottom half of the build, partnered with a custom board to handle the GC+ and U-Amp. I have an interesting idea for how to incorporate shoulder buttons onto the board, so I'm looking forward to further developing that idea.
This project will hopefully be a fun mix of new and old, custom PCBs with sacrificial daughterboards, 3D printing with frankencasing.... These are the types of builds that inspired me to get into this hobby!

KiWii Portable (In progress)
Oh boy, another Wii Mini entry, if somebody doesn't mind explaining, are there any huge benefits using a Wii Mini over a 4 Layer Wii? Also I love the basic case design, will probably save lots of time from CAD design, can't wait to see the end result!
