Hey Folks,

Thought I would be the first to do the honors of posting my g-boy worklog. I got the kit last night and continued to burn the midnight oil to get as much done possible (all the while taking it slow and methodical). Overall so very very pleased with the kit and luckily I got the Software portablizemii to work after messing up one wii console with loading the incorrect ios to the NAND.

Things of note. Correct me if im wrong, but the joycons did not sit flush with the pre-drilled hole mounts. There was a little bit of an overhang and when you torque the joycon brace, it begins to warp the plastic brace without shims. Also, this was the only circumstance I ran into where the 2x4 screws seems a bit short for the job.

Also, due to this being a 3D print obviously need to do a little light sanding for controller buttons to feel normal. Nothing I didnt expect though. In case of my DS lite buttons, it was easier to shave off a little plastic material off the buttons vs doing it to the case itself less to remove hanging artifacts.

May want to check the fan wiring, kinda hard to tell if the red and black wire are backwards in the pic. Btw the new rvlpms pcb has some additional pads for the voltages so the fan power can be wired to the small 3.3v pad. The guide will be updated to reflect the updated PCB soon.

Shooo, Thanks gman. What a goof! I'll fix that up in a jiffy. I appreciate you keeping a sharp eye on the pictures. It's a big help!

Good luck with the rest, looks great so far. The joycon doesnt need to be torqued down so much, the little pressure keeps it from wiggling around.

Fixed the wiring* and I backed out the screws a little for the joycon too. Thanks a million gman! Btw, do you think I should post here or the build discord?

Here or both is fine. The discord is mainly meant to be used for quick questions otherwise the forums for more lengthy troubleshooting discussions and worklog updates.

*Update* I ran into some issues with my USB-C board/PMS so the boards were shipped off to Gman for analysis. In the meantime, I figured I would work on trimming my wii motherboard without testing the U10 first (wish me luck). Trim so far was the 2nd hardest part of the build (I spent like 15 or more hours getting portablizemii running with games and covers). So far, the build has presented many challenges, but the community has really stepped in and helped me out. Helpful tip to ppl first time trimmers...wear a tyvec suit when dealing with fiberglass! I wore gloves, a mask, and a face shield but I forgot to protect my arms. Still itchy lol.

*Minor Update*

I decided to mock up some labels today after work for the gboy. I wanted to make it obvious what the gboy is the second you pick it up. I was also thinking about making some labels regarding batteries, the hotkeys for changing the volume levels, etc.

Wow nice work! Sticker, great idea. I would note the rating "7.4v", the battery is 3.7V 1S2P. If that's what you were referring to.

Got your boards back. I did some quick reflow on the usbc board and it passes all tests now. No idea what the issue was but anyway should be all good now. I'll let it sit for a few days, test it again, then ship back next week. How it works one day, then doesnt another, doesnt make a lot of sense but could be residue drying or something.

Awesome, thanks Gman. Do you think I should take is easy on the flux and 91% isopropyl alcohol, lol? Giving it time to air out of course.

For my label, do you know the power ratings for the Gboy? I know usually nintendo will do one on their portables. Example below:

I measured a while back, I recall it being around 10-12 watts

*Minor Update* while I am waiting on the PCB's from Gman, I figured I would finish up my trim by removing the "U9" IC for the MX relocation and the 5 capacitors on the main board. I also finished up the back sticker and decided I prefer it to read horizontal instead of vertical. I want the label to be very subtle but I am not happy with how it looks and was thinking maybe making the label orange or gray... No matter, I will revisit that later.
