Suggestions for new portable?

I'm looking into building a Wii portable after a bit of hesitation and worry after seeing how daunting it is. What buttons and sticks do you recommend using? I was thinking about taking a decent third-party GameCube controller apart and using the sticks and buttons for them and then wiring the pads. Also, where do you recommend buying parts like screens and lithium batteries from? Amazon doesn't seem to have any good 5" 16:9 LCD screens. Thanks for any suggestions, I appreciate it.

Would recommend looking into the Ashida. It has a BOM that you can take a look at. There isn't really a guide for it but GingerofOz has a video of him assembling it that you follow along with. 4layertech sells the PCB set and has some good documentation. Check out some worklogs here to find some good information.
