emulating the disc drive won't be necessary, and neither would SEEPROM (I think SEEPROM can be left out?) or eMMC. Booting a basic loader from an emulated SD card with an RP2040 may be a viable solution. Perhaps it could boot from USB with a replacement boot1 being launched via the sd or emmc...
