Spotify just recently announced the discontinuation of Car Thing. This isn't necessarily terrible, until you realize they will be BRICKING each device, meaning you paid around $85 for two years of a Spotify only phone. That sucks. Spotify has already announced they will not open source the device. So, heres my question, how hard would it be to make an open source version?
See, I use Spotify a lot, whether it be at work, at my desk, or while I'm live streaming. Although, I always have to keep going through many windows or a slow phone to change songs. I'm very intrigued by the idea of a dial knob specifically for your Spotify playlists.
This will obviously need use of Spotify's API's, a microcontroller, and some creative wiring. I have little experience with computer programming, meaning it would be difficult for me to implement everything together. Although, would people use it? Please let me know your thoughts, as I think this could be a nice secondary project for me.
