Don't think I'm quite ready to tackle a Wii portable yet so i decided to take a flashback 3 and the secondary screen of a dvd player a (very useful as already has speakers a volume control, a headphone jack and an av input) and mash them together.
Using a £20 soldering iron from Aldi, some old wires and some tape and one day (as I hate having unfinished projects) I created it.
The process of building it was pretty simple as there is loads of space inside secondary screen as it doesn't have the dvd player inside and the Atari emulation board is small as well.
Process
1. Disasemble everthing
2. Solder av output from Atari to headphone jack pins of screen connect only sound to both left and right audio.
2b. Cut holes for controller ports
3. Hot glue in Atari main board
4. Trim the button board to relocate barrel power jack to side of screen and wire up fix in place with more hot glue
5. Hot glue on button board with plastic plate from atari on top
6. Cut plastic top of screen off to make space for buttons and make space for atari barrel jack
7. Tape top for neatness
8. I also replaced one speaker for better sound quality but unfortunately it buzzess at high volume
Not sure about speaker probably my soldering or wrong resistance or wattage or something any help would be greatly appreciated as my main knowledge comes from scratch building a RC plane
Completed:
Next steps
1. Fix buzzing
2. Make Wii portable which will be battery powered and maybe have an internal Wii remote for super Mario galaxy with same internals
Portable* requires two sockets and a external Atari controller
