MGC
YO!

MGC 2024 (somehow) already came and went. Why weren't you there? Chained knock-off Mario plushie is deeply disappointed in you. Unless you were there, in which case... NICE! Hope you enjoyed your time, post your pics in this thread.

As per usual the room was full of portables and projects from the crew. Including @Benge 's XBOX 360 portable that dwarfed the other portables.

The Nintendo world room was pretty cool

MGC Was clearly sponsored by Tesla, again, and featured a truck that's conveniently not just drive by wire but also steer-by-wire so you can crash into your nearest wall while driving. The rep there also seemed annoyed that I was taking pics of the car.

Also there was not just one cell provider but TWO this year.

Oh also shout out to that one vender that clearly had no clue what this game was and was desperately trying to get me to buy it when I backed up in confusion and said aloud "Is that a Zero no Tsukaima... PS2 Game?" Who would've known such a thing existed - I didn't buy it.

MGC, the best time of the year.... okay dump time!

Had to start off the meetup by comparing Wiis to see whose is smaller ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I didn't take too many pics of the room, but here are some of my favorite showings from this year. Words cannot do it justice how awesome the ShortStack is, between the perfection in the model, how feature-packed it is, how perfect the print itself is... just WOW. I never thought I would get so hyped from turning a Wii on and off with a Wiimote :XD:. It was also cool finally seeing Nold's builds in person, he is the 3D-print-sanding king!!! Perfect finish on all of those portables.

Saw some cool stuff at the vendor hall. I was particularly astounded by a booth with a TON of 3D printed stuff. Gunnar and I asked them what printers they use and were slack-jawed when they said "primarily a Prusa mk3." These prints put ours to shame!

There was a lot more at that booth that I should have taken pictures of, but I forgor.

Some other crazy things I saw at the vendor hall:

I brought the parts for us to build one of @Nicholas298's N64HHs, and we all (mostly @Gman) got it together over the course of Saturday.

A couple of us stayed for Sunday / Monday, so we got to extend our manlove retreat for even longer. I couldn't for the life of me get @Shank's Ashida out of "shipping mode," but Gunnar took one look at it and it started working again. It seems that Gunnar has never had that issue...

Sunday and Monday we partied hard, had some good eats, saw the eclipse, and chilled as bros do. I don't have as many photos, but I know some other people have some great shots from those days. Here are a few more shots from the weekend that I think are thread-worthy:

MGC was a ton of fun! I was on the same flight to Milwaukee as HackerBilly, which was a great way to start off the weekend. He gave me the inside scoop on how he's revolutionizing Toy Story figure modding, which was super interesting.

Friday was very chill. Here's a pic of the room as we were setting up, and my family of handhelds (including Greasy GamePad™). Sadly I left the RetroLite CM4 at home this year :(

Friday evening tacos!

IMG_20240405_203031.jpg

A wild Nold appeared! Here's Kamp and Benge checking out Nold's sweet custom PCBs. The PCB trading continued unabated all weekend, and may have been my favorite part of the whole convention. Kamp's DS Lite XL boards were particularly sexy!

We also had a photoshoot with all the landscape 3.5" portables— Crazy posted close-ups earlier!

On Saturday I went on an excursion to the vendor hall with Crazy and saw this bevy of WonderSwans, as well as a shockingly white Famicom:

Totally would've picked up this epic stained glass Knight if I had a way to get it home safely. I also saw some classic Tiger handhelds and snapped a pic for @Downing!

I brought Nikoil's indigo NGCP and it was a hit! This revision is 3D printed and has both a Wasp Fusion and an SDGecko. Definitely check out the original NGCP worklog if you haven't seen it before! It's arguably the most ambitious GameCube handheld ever made.

The pinball zone was as impressive as always. I played some Whirlwind! There were a bunch of Atomiswaves and Blast Cities too!

One final portable family portrait:
IMG_20240407_140124.jpg

I had a lot of fun playing Nintendoland, theorycrafting Wii U portable stuff with Benge and Shank, and talking about CRTs with Andy and Rain!

While I couldn't stay for the eclipse after-party, on Sunday afternoon I was joined on my way back to Florida by Nold and his partner! This past weekend we went to Glitch Bar in Fort Lauderdale and Nold kicked my butt in Waku Waku 7. I got payback in Death Ball though.(Btw, Black Emperor is SOOO addicting.)

Glitch also has a Donkey Kong machine signed by the one and only Miami-based professional scumbag, Billy Mitchell! Gotta love SoFlo...

That's all I've got! See you guys next year! :D

This was my first ever MGC, and it was a blast.

Managed to catch @Downing's panel in the vendor hall
IMG_1679.jpg

The BitBuilt Experience™️ room was PACKED on Saturday lunchtime. My favorite part was hearing people shout "wow" when looking at the builds. Surprisingly I didn't hear much "is this a raspberry pi" nonsense, everyone seemed to get what the builds were!

IMG_1683.jpg

When the room was quieter is was cool to see everyone working on projects. I think seeing "makers in the wild" is actually a very cool experience for many people visiting the room.

IMG_1688.jpg

[Caption] Gunnar: "wtf is this Crazy?"

When I told people I was going to Milwaukee the response was like "like the tool company?". So I had to get a photo for them:
IMG_1691.jpg

It was really cool being able to show off Short Stack for the first time, I literally finished it the night before I packed for the trip. It was also amazing to be set up right next to the Noldendo/WiiNano legend himself Nold!

IMG_1692.jpg

Almost every time I looked over Shank was carrying some kind of CRT, just as the lore described:

IMG_1693.jpg

I managed to catch @Y2K doing the most insane flex pcb assembly, where he live transplanted every component (including 0402 passives) between actively reflowed flex PCBs in under 3 minutes. I honestly have no idea how he did this, I would have launched the parts all over the room.

IMG_1694.jpg

Of course a new meme was born:

I'm really happy I stuck around for Sunday night, had a blast with these nerds at dinner and the Up-Down barcade:

I didn't manage to get a photo of us absolutely crushing it at Killer Queen, or the impromptu balloon animals - but trust me, that happened.

To cap it off, a nice lady in the airport gave me her spare pair of eclipse glasses and managed to get a few photos
IMG_1738.jpg

Overall I had a blast thanks for making me feel welcome everyone!
