I used a 11.1v LiPo battery to try to test all of my voltages as my 18650's were not charged, but when I plugged it in. I got a spark, now everything just heats up without doing anything. I still get resistance from all of my voltage out pins. But there seems to be a short on R17. Also, I noticed this blemish on this chip and was wondering if anyone could confirm that this chip is fried. If it is, I have a hot air station and could replace it fairly easily. In the attached picture, I've included the R17 and the chip pictured circled in red. If I could simply replace the chip and possibly the R17, Does anyone have a supplier where I could get replacements to try to save the board? In the meantime, I'm going to simply order another board. But I would love to be able to repair this one for my next build.

If you connected a 11.1v pack to the PMS, it's dead. The PMS line of regulator boards are designed to accept 3.7v packs only. You can try replacing the BQ24292i chip with a new one from Digikey/Mouser, but it may not be enough to save it. Also IIRC that resistor is a near 0ohm resistor, so it reading as a short is normal.

If 11.1v burns out the board, then wouldn't the 14.8v from the 4 18650's in parallel burn out the board? Or am I completely overlooking something?

based off of this reply (unless you had just got them mixed up while typing) you may have series and parallel configurations backwards

If you wire 4 18650's in parallel (each positive terminal together and each negative terminal together) the voltage stays the same but the capacity is increased i.e 4 3400mah 3.7v 18650's in parallel makes 3.7v @ 13600mah

4 18650's in series (positive terminal to negative terminal for each battery) will increase the voltage but the capacity stays the same i.e 4 3400mah 18650's in series makes 14.8v @ 3400mah.

When wiring 3.7v batteries for the PMS, make sure they're wired in parallel and not in series!

OMG I feel like a complete idiot. You're completely right. I can't believe I went and goofed that up. The Battery pack I used was a 3s pack wired in series for the higher voltage. I got it all mixed up big time. Well, here's to having disposable income I suppose. I guess you could consider it disposed of. The thing I'm most upset about is that I have to wait a whole week before I can even test out my Wii Trim.

Thankyou for your response. I knew I had to be overlooking something incredibly dumb.

Don't feel stupid at all! Mistakes and troubleshooting are all part of the process! I'm glad I could provide some insight! And good luck for whenever you can test your trim out!

Do a lot of people design their own case? This is the case I've been working on over the last few weeks. I'm modeling it off of the GBA obviously

Personal designs are very common, yeah. The GBA form factor looks good
