What's this I hear?
It sounds like shrieking.
But from whom?
I must investigate.

Oh the wretched sound!
Emanating from a small box -
A box of mistakes and sorrow
'Tis the Ziploc of broken electronics
Of dead hopes
Of failed dreams

But something is louder
Far far louder than the other boards
A small, black square
A perfect square
A perfect board
Or so it was
'Twould be
A GC+

Perfect no longer
For reasons unknown
But why does it cry?
What makes it moan?

Out from the bag
I carefully withdraw it
And suddenly it says
"YOU'RE SUCH AN IDIOT"

I jump with suprise
This dead board can speak?
"THAT'S RIGHT" the board says,
"DO YOU KNOW YOUR MISTAKE?"

"OUTPUT CAPS"
"OUTPUT CAPS"
"OUTPUT CAPS"
"OUTPUT CAPS"
"YOU LEFT THE REG WITHOUT THEM,
NOW YOU'RE LEFT WITHOUT ME"

"No!"
I cry
"This can't be right?"
"The guide just said recommended,"

"Is there another reason that you be dead?"

"NOPE"
said the board
"LET'S LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE"
"WHAT ELSE HAS DIED"
"(other than you inside)"

I thought for a moment,
What could be dead?
But then it hit me
And I said with dread:

"The IR LEDs..."
"....On 3.3...."
"....Just like ye"

And the board was silent

No more did it whisper,
No more did it speak,
No more did it yell,
No more did it shriek,

And now, in the silence
I knew my mistake
It all come down
To a voltage spike

Oh, the Wii could take it just fine
Without a whimper or whine
But the LEDs? The GC+?
Those were delicate.

A volatile PTH
And a few saved cents
Result in dead boards
And lots of regret
*applauds* Fucking amazing

Thank you for giving me a straight answer
Remember to make sure to orientate the caps correctly. You want the side marked ground to be facing inwards (where the ground is)

Not too bad. Ignore the skew stick, the blu tack holding it up came off.

By a single mumble ass hair all the big things fit.

Bit more space optimising to do, but it's going to work I think.

Words cannot express my ecstasy
20180120_191625.jpg

FIRST TRY NERDS!
Ignore the non-functional USB port, I'm working on that.

EDIT: All Wii-side stuff is working, even my dodgy MX chip wiring. Just have to debug the Eyoyo screen's controls since they've arbitrarily decided to stop working, then I'm good to go once the Lynx's top coat is fully cured.

EDITEDIT: I fixed the screen controls. Turns out I nike swooshed the control sense trace when dremelling out the screwpost anchors. One wire was the solution.

Well fuck how do you wire the output caps (My teacher in electricity class couldn't fucking explain how caps work)

I attached a picture of how I wired mine. Just reverse the cap on the output, make sure you keep ground the same polarity. Gman can tell you what happens if you wire a cap backwards.

MY DUDES IT IS COMPLETE!
Full pictures and video to come tomorrow. It's too late here in the land of Kangaroos and Dollarydoos to do it all now, but I'll leave this booty pic here as a teaser ;)

Well fuck how do you wire the output caps (My teacher in electricity class couldn't fucking explain how caps work)
Output capacitors should be wired in parallel with the output load. When working with electolidic capacitors, you must place the negative side of the capacitor to ground or the cap will explode. Some other kinds of capacitors have no polarity so you can wire either side to ground.

Capacitors work by having a voltage build up between the plates of the capacitor, which are seperated by a dialectric such as paper or air. When the input voltage to the capacitor is less than the voltage built across the plates, the capacitor will discharge. This keeps voltage at a regulated level even when there is drop in the output from the power source. When there is a spike in the input voltage, the capacitor will absorb the spike by wanting to charge to that voltage level keeping your precious components safe.

This is in no way a comprehensive explanation but it is enough for a portable.

This was honestly amazing. Why couldn't my textbook say this? This explains everything. Saying that wasn't comprehensive is too modest.
