Hey everybody hope you guys are doing well!
I had a question about soft modding a wii for the Gboy build. Ive been looking high and low for a RVL CPU-40 or higher wii but haven't had any luck outside of a few RVL CPU 40 mother boards with no shell. Is it possible to soft mod the wii without the sell and disk drive? I do have a rvl cpu 01 that i was thinking of "borrowing" some of the parts to do the mod but would that mean Id have to disassemble the whole wii then put everything back?

I appreciate the help!

just so many i am so cool
All you need to softmod a Wii is the motherboard with the Wifi and Bluetooth modules still attached. Just to be sure, you aren't looking at the $80 4 layer motherboards on ebay, are you?

Probably not.

There's a general guide on Wii revisions here:

https://bitbuilt.net/forums/index.php?threads/revision-identification-guide.863/

And that guide is probably based on the spreadsheet of serial numbers, colors, and motherboard revisions from the first post in this thread:

https://bitbuilt.net/forums/index.p...iis-revision-based-off-of-serial-numbers.716/

Most of my Wiis are black RVL-101 with motherboard RVK-CPU-101 revision (4 layer). I found them by searching for "black wii" on eBay.com and shopgoodwill.com.

yea i was following that guide but it didnt talk about black wii's I just read from CrazyGadgets that "any non-white Wii (black, blue, red) is a guaranteed 4 layer." and i found a black wii for 30. so im trying to go snag it now

You're right, it doesn't specifically talk about black Wiis. It has a chart with a decision labeled "Is the shell white?", then an arrow labeled "No" that points to a box that says "4 layer board only". This means any black Wii with GameCube ports will only have a 4 layer board. From other parts of the chart, you can determine that a black Wii without GameCube ports also will only have a 4 layer board.
